Project Background
The Rural Health and Education Service Trust (RHEST) launched a girls’ education project in rural areas to combat barriers such as economic constraints, cultural norms, and isolation. The project aimed to protect girls from trafficking, child marriage, child labor, and unsafe migration by increasing education access, raising community awareness, and empowering girls through life skills training.

Objectives
The RHEST girls’ education project is designed with specific goals to address the educational disparities faced by girls in rural areas. The objectives focus on enhancing access to quality education, empowering girls with essential skills and knowledge, and fostering a supportive community environment through active engagement and advocacy. By achieving these objectives, the project aims to protect girls from exploitation and promote their overall well-being and future success.

Increase Educational Access
Facilitate access to quality education for girls in rural areas by providing scholarships, financial support, and logistical assistance to overcome economic and geographical barriers.
Empower and Protect Girls
Equip girls with life skills and awareness to make informed decisions, protecting them from trafficking, child marriage, child labor, and unsafe migration.
Community Engagement and Advocacy
Collaborate with local communities and policymakers to create a supportive environment for girls’ education and advocate for gender-sensitive educational policies.
Activities
Scholarship and Transportation Program
Implement a scholarship program to provide financial support to girls from low-income families, covering tuition fees, books, and uniforms. Additionally, establish a transportation system to ensure safe and reliable access to schools, reducing the distance barrier that often hinders girls from attending classes.
Life Skills and Awareness Workshops
Organize workshops and training sessions that focus on developing essential life skills, such as decision-making, leadership, and self-advocacy. These workshops will also include awareness sessions on the risks of trafficking, child marriage, child labor, and unsafe migration, equipping girls with the knowledge to protect themselves and make informed choices.
Community Outreach and Advocacy Campaigns
Conduct community outreach programs and advocacy campaigns to engage local leaders, parents, and other stakeholders in discussions about the importance of girls’ education. These campaigns will aim to change perceptions and cultural norms, encouraging communities to support and prioritize the education of girls, and to advocate for gender-sensitive policies within the education system
